Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Valkyries Rock Railsplitters

HARROGATE, TENN.– The Converse University field hockey team defeated Lincoln Memorial 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.

With the victory, Converse improves 4-2 overall and 2-1 in South Atlantic Conference action. Meanwhile, Lincoln Memorial falls to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in SAC play. The Valkyries are now 3-0 all-time against the Railsplitters dating back to last season.

However, it was Lincoln Memorial who jumped on the scoreboard first as Katherine Brislin found Olivia Rosini for the opening goal of the game. The Valkyries appeared unphased by the opening goal from the Railsplitters, as Kilee Bradeen found Josephine Esterhues for the game tying goal 45 seconds later. For Esterhues it was also her first collegiate goal.

Less than three minutes of game time later, Bradeen found Caroline Blair for the Valkyries go-ahead goal. Despite the Valkyries best efforts, the Railsplitters kept the Valkyries off the board the rest of the opening half. Converse took a 2-1 advantage going into the halftime intermission.

Once again in the third quarter the Valkyries offense was stifled by the Railsplitters defense, despite attempting 10 shots in the period. Finally, in the fourth quarter, Brooklyn Widdess found Samantha Daly for her first career goal. Moments later Catalina Pistaccio scored the final goal of the match and sent the Valkyries back down the mountain with the win.

As a team Converse outshot Lincoln Memorial 27-7 overall and 24-4 in shots on goal. Lincoln Memorial finished the match with 20 team saves, while the Valkyries held the advantage 5-3 in penalty corner attempts.
