SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team fell 1-0 in overtime today against Limestone University.
The loss today snaps a three-game winning streak dating back to last Saturday for the Valkyries. Converse is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in South Atlantic Conference action. Today's loss also ends a five-game winning streak against Limestone dating back to the start of the 2021 season. The last four matchups between these two squads have all ended with 1-0 final scores.
The Saints controlled the game from the start outshooting the Valkyries 5-1 in the opening half of action. Kat Daniels made four saves in the opening half to keep the match scoreless heading into the halftime intermission.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Valkyries once again started slow on the offensive end of the ball. The Saints outshot the Valkyries 10-1 in the second half but once again, Daniels made 5 saves in the second half to keep the match scoreless. At the end of regulation, Limestone finished with 10 corner attempts.
For the second time this season the Valkyries went to overtime against an opponent. Limestone came away with the win after Cato Bleijenberg found Felicitas Herrero Martel for the game-winning goal on a corner attempt at the end of the match.
