SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University softball team was swept by the Barton Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Tyger River Stadium by scores of 5-4 and 9-6. Converse concludes the 2023 season with a 15-33 overall record and a 6-18 mark in Conference Carolinas play.     
 
Game 1 Notes:
Bottom 1^st – Chesney Miles drew a leadoff walk to start off the inning and moved into scoring position after stealing second base. Miles came around to score the first run of the game off a Victoria Dichio single.
 
Top 4^th – Branch was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved into scoring position following a sacrifice bunt. Branch came around to score on a Massey single to right center field.
 
Bottom 5^th – Karleigh Crabill began the inning with a single up the middle and moved into scoring position following a bunt single by Grace Mckinney. AJ Albano laid down another bunt single to score Crabill and move Mckinney over to third base. Albano stole second base and Miles followed with a single back to the pitcher. Maddie Modica broke the game open with a two-run single to right field.
 
Top 6^th – Massengill drew a one out walk in the top half of the inning. Massey reached on an error by the Valkyries third baseman and Correa brought them home with a three-run homerun.
 
Top 7^th – Cyzick hit a one out single and then moved into scoring position following a ground out by Branch. Bell singled up the middle drive Cyzick for the game winning run.
 
Notables Game 1:
Miles – 2-for-3, 2 runs
McKinney – 2-for-3
Modica – 1-for-4, 2 RBI's
Serrah Ballard – 7.0 innings pitched, 4 earned runs, 3 strikeouts.

Game 2 Notes:
Top 1^st – Branch roped a one out single up the middle of the infield and advanced to second following a ground out by Bell. Back-to-back RBI singles by Massey and Correa but the Bulldogs on the board first.
 
Bottom 2^nd – Crabill began the inning by reaching on error by the second baseman. Albano singled up the middle and one batter later Modica loaded up the bases with a full count walk. Ayellad Howard blasted a three-run triple to left center field to give Converse a 3-2 advantage. Miles then drove in the fourth run of the inning and a few batters later McKinney drove in the fifth run for the Valkyries offense.
 
Top 4^th – Massey reached first on an error by the Valkyries short stop but was out on the next play following a fielder's choice. Wade singled to centerfield and Griffen came around to score from first following an error by the Valkyries outfield.
 
Bottom 4^th – Dichio and Finazzo recorded back-to-back singles to start the inning. McKinney doubled to right field to bring in Dichio from second.
 
Top 6^th – The Bulldogs batted around in the top of the sixth inning and scored six runs against the Valkyries pitching staff.

Dichio – 2-for-3, 1 run scored
Finazzo – 2-for-3
McKinney – 2-for-4, 2 RBI's
Howard – 1-for-2, 1 run, 3 RBI's
