Valkyries Set School Records in Win Over Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Converse lacrosse team broke the single season school record for team goals in a season with 193, as they defeated the Southern Wesleyan Warriors 19-6 on Wednesday evening at Childs Field.

Converse improves to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas play this season, while Southern Wesleyan drops to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in Conference Carolinas action. The win on Wednesday evening also ended a four-game losing streak to the Warriors dating back to 2018.

Gencie Coan scored the opening goal of the game at the 10:27 mark of the first period. Moments later, Lauryn Esposito tied the game up with a goal of her own for Southern Wesleyan. Following a goal by Ryleigh Schaeffer, the Warriors scored three straight goals to take a 4-2 advantage over the Valkyries. Converse started to battle back with goals by Brenna Everette and Schaeffer in the waning moments of the first quarter. Everette scored the final goal of the quarter with 16 seconds to play to give the Valkyries a 5-4 advantage heading into the second period of action.

In the second quarter the Valkyries shutdown the Warriors offense and outscored them 4-1 in the frame to take 9-5 lead into the halftime break. The Valkyries nine first half goals tied the single season school record for goals in a season. Karter Lauer's goal just 30 seconds into the third period broke the school record as Converse took a 10-5 advantage.

Converse went on to outscore Southern Wesleyan 10-1 in the second half. Hailey Obenchain led the offense with eight points on the night, following a two goal and six assist outburst against the Warriors. Everette led the team with a season high six goals against Southern Wesleyan and Karter Lauer and Madelyn Robinson each scored a hat trick in the win. Reagan Collins made 13 saves in the win against Southern Wesleyan.
