SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University lacrosse team put on a shooting clinic on Thursday evening at Weisiger Stadium as they defeated Alliance University 20-2.
It is the fourth time in school history the Valkyries have scored 20 goals in a game and the most since defeating the University of Dallas 25-4 a season ago. Converse improves to 4-4 on the season, while Alliance falls to 0-5 on the year. Since moving to a quarter system last season, the Valkyries nine first quarter goals are the second most in school history.
Converse had 11 different players score goals on Thursday night and eight different players recorded multi-goal performances against Alliance. Freshman
Ryleigh Schaeffer led the offense with a hat trick and on the defensive side of the ball had seven ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Brenna Everette had a team high three assists, while also leading the team with five points in the match. Schaeffer finished the game with four points, while fellow freshman
Gencie Coan and
Hailey Obenchain also recorded four-point performances for the Valkyries.
Reagan Collins picked up the win in the cage for the Valkyries as she recorded a pair of saves in the win. Alliance attempted just five total shots in the entire game against the Valkyries defense.
The Valkyries controlled the game from the start as they scored the first nine goals of the game and led 9-0 after the first quarter of action. Cassidy O'Neill,
Rhianna Warner, Obenchain and Schaeffer each scored a pair of goals in the opening quarter, while Coan added a goal in the period.
In the second quarter
Karter Lauer scored the first goal of the period to give the Valkyries a 10-0 advantage over Alliance. Jasmyne Moore scored the first goal of the game for Alliance with 11:53 to play in second quarter. Converse then scored the next five goals and went into the halftime break up 15-1.
In the second half the Valkyries worked on set plays and gave some of their younger players a lot of game time experience.

Teresa Wright and
Samantha Sparks all scored their first career goals in the win on Thursday evening. Alexis Taylor scored the final goal of the game and the second goal of the night for Alliance with 51 seconds to go in the game.
