SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University lacrosse team fell 21-6 on Saturday afternoon to UVA Wise at Weisiger Stadium.
 
With the loss Converse falls to 3-4 overall on the season, while UVA Wise improves to 4-3 on the year. The Valkyries are now 2-2 in home games this season, with their last win coming against Davis & Elkins on February 26^th. Converse was efficient in shooting on Saturday afternoon as they scored six goals on 11 total shots.
 
Five minutes into the opening quarter, Gencie Coan found Hailey Obenchain for the opening goal of the game and the Valkyries held an early 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later Ashley Fisher tied the game for UVA Wise and roughly two minutes after that Abby Stoffelen gave the Cavaliers the go-ahead goal on a man-up opportunity. UVA Wise ended the first quarter with 5-1 advantage over Converse.
 
Just 11 seconds into the second quarter, Caitlyn Schultz found the back of the net for UVA Wise and the Cavilers were up 6-1. With 13:17 to play in the quarter, Obenchain found Cassidy O'neill for the second goal of the contest for Converse. Following a man down UVA Wise goal, Obenchain found Schaeffer for the Valkyries third goal of the game. Despite an Obenchain goal with 1:19 remaining in the half, the Valkyries trailed 12-4 at the halftime break.
 
UVA Wise opened the third quarter by scoring six straight goals against the Valkyries defense. Schaeffer found Brenna Everette for her first goal of the game and ended the Cavaliers shutout in the second half. UVA Wise tacked on three more goals in the second half before Everette scored the final goal of the game for either side.
