BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Converse University women's tennis team lost 7-0 to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
In the doubles portion of the match, the Valkyries got off to a slow start as they lost at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts. The Valkyries top pairing of
Tonya Glogowski-Watson and
Khushi Kharb went the distance with the Bulldogs top pairing. The tandem of Glogowksi-Watson and Kharb came up short as they lost in a tiebreak 8-6.
Going into the singles section of the match the Valkyries trailed 1-0 to Gardner-Webb. The Bulldogs clinched the match quickly with straight set wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles courts. At court No. 4,
Sofia Giaraldo-Jimenez held her own and won the opening set 6-4, following a second set loss, Giaraldo-Jimenez fell 10-7 in the final set to give Gardner-Webb another point. At the No. 6 singles flight,
Lais Martins won the opening set tie break 7-5 to take a one set lead over her opponent. Martins lost a close second set 7-5 and lost in the third set 10-8.
