Men’s Tennis Hangs with No. 21 Anderson

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team hung around with nationally ranked Anderson on Saturday afternoon but fell 5-2 to the Trojans on a bright, sunny day at the Converse Tennis Courts.

During the doubles portion of the match the Trojans jumped out to an early lead with a win at the No. 2 doubles court. The Valkyries No. 3 doubles tandem of Enzo Marcheschi and Cameron Davies tied the doubles point up at one court each. The No. 1 doubles court came down to a tiebreaker and the Valkyries top duo of Paul Berrouet and Gregoire Legrand came up just short at 7-5 to give the Trojans an early 1-0 advantage.

In singles action the Trojans quickly jumped out to a 3-0 advantage as they won in straight sets at Court No. 4 and Court No. 5. Leopold Morel kept the match alive with a win at the No. 6 singles court and Paul Berrouet won at the No. 3 singles court, making the score 3-2. Legrand fell at the No. 1 singles flight and Marcheschi lost in three sets at the No. 2 singles flight against a nationally ranked opponent.

The Converse men's tennis team will have over a week off before traveling down to Sumter, S.C., next weekend to battle both USC Sumter and Coker University.
