BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Converse University women's basketball team dropped a road contest to King University on Wednesday evening. The 72-64 loss drops Converse to 4-22 overall and 4-15 in Conference Carolinas play while King moves to 7-19 overall and 7-11 in Conference Carolinas action.
King got off to a quick 5-0 start before
Daven West sank two free throws to get Converse on the board. Jada Campbell then had a three-pointer go in followed by an Alexa Gramann jumper to make it 10-2 in the Tornado's favor.
Sydney Wilson then checked in and immediately got a jumper to go in for the Valkyries. With 4:03 left in the quarter, Wilson brought Converse within four points of the King lead and then had a pair of free throws go in to end the quarter with 13 Valkyrie points compared to the Tornado's 16 points.
The Valkyries held King to just five points in the second quarter which was led by Wilson and
Jordan Brown. Wilson tied the game up at 19 points each team with just over three minutes left on the clock. Brown was able to capture the lead for Converse with 2:08 remaining. A fast break jumper fell for the Valkyries to give them the eight-point lead before Gramann made two free throws to make it 27-21 in Converse's favor going into halftime.
The Tornado wanted to make up for lost ground in the third quarter, getting themselves within one point of the Valkyrie lead to open up the quarter.
Zahra Cross was able to get Converse a four-point lead with 6:05 left in the third quarter before King recaptured a one-point lead with 5:09 left on the clock. Up five points with 3:13 remaining, King called a timeout which was followed by a Wilson layup to make it a seven-point lead the Valkyrie way. Jaden Potts tied it up 42 points apiece before Cross sank a buzzer-beater three-pointer to give Converse the 47-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter of play, the Tornado outshot the Valkyries 30-17. Converse was able to hold a lead until 5:37 was left in the game as Tori Smiley had a pair of free throws fall the Tornado way. Six straight points to close out the game would give King the 72-64 win over Converse to end the night.
Wilson led the Valkyries with 28 points, nine rebounds, one assist and two blocks. Brown followed with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals while Cross had 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Converse will play a non-conference game at Johnson & Wales on Friday evening. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
