SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On senior day inside the Weisiger Center, the Converse women's basketball team dropped a 61-45 contest to the Southern Wesleyan Warriors on Saturday afternoon. Converse is now 4-21 overall and 4-14 in Conference Carolinas play while Southern Wesleyan is 7-18 overall and 7-10 in Conference Carolinas action.
The Warriors started hot, going up 13-4 on the Valkyries.
Sydney Wilson got a jumper to go in for two points while
Alisa Davenport had a pair of free throws go her way. The Valkyries stepped it up in the second quarter, making 12 points while the Warriors had 14 points.
Jordan Brown brought Converse with nine points of Southern Wesleyan's lead to start off the second quarter followed by Davenport having another pair of free throws going in. The Warriors were able to get a 12-point advantage with 6:21 left on the clock. Davenport sank a jumper to bring the Valkyries within 10.
Colbie Perry then sank a pair of free throws that would bring Converse within eight points of the lead with 1:25 remaining in the second quarter. A three-pointer with 39 seconds left allowed Southern Wesleyan to go into the halftime break up 27-16.
Zahra Cross started out the third quarter by sinking a three-ball followed by a jumper. Southern Wesleyan out shot Converse 16-8 in the quarter, ultimately going into the fourth quarter up 43-24. Wilson and Amia Parkins had back-to-back layups go in for the Valkyries, but four straight Warrior points brought their lead to 20. Converse worked hard to come back, scoring 10 unanswered points. Southern Wesleyan stopped the shooting with 1:07 left as Lexi Greffen had a pair of free throws go her way. Cross' free throws would be the last Valkyrie points of the game and her last points inside the Weisiger Center as Converse fell 61-45.
Cross led Converse with 10 points, one rebound, one assist and one steal. Davenport followed with 10 points, one rebound and one block while Parkins had a total of 16 rebounds on the afternoon.

The Valkyries will travel to Bristol, Tenn. on Wednesday evening to face the King Tornado.
