Women’s Basketball Ends 2023 With Victory Over Falcons

RALEIGH, N.C. – Behind three double-digit scorers and a 46.3% field goal percentage, the Converse University women's basketball team (5-6, 2-2 Conference Carolinas) defeated the St. Augustine's University Falcons (7-4, 1-2 CIAA) by a final score of 65-50.
Junior guard Elisa Solé led all scorers with 19 points, the third time she had been the Valkyries top scorer this season. The Barcelona native added six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks to her statline. Graduate guard Jordan Brown posted 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and recorded a pair of steals. 
The final Valkyrie to score in double-digits was redshirt senior center Sydney Wilson, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked three shots and stole the ball once.
Converse held the Falcons to just 13 points in each of the first two quarters with just 10 made field goals in the first half. The Valkyries forced the Falcons into a zero-percent three-point percentage in the second quarter. With St. Augustine's holding a two-point advantage in the first quarter, Converse entered the locker room down just two points.
The Valkyries erased the deficit with a two-point advantage in the third quarter. Converse shot 57.1% from the field while holding St. Augustine's to 40.0% with no made three points in the third frame. More impressively, the Valkyries tied the game going into the final quarter with no free throw attempts in the third quarter. Heading into the final 10 minutes of action, the Valkyries and Falcons were tied at 41 points each.
Converse's defense held strong in the fourth quarter, limiting the Falcons to just nine points in the final 10 minutes. After going back-and-forth over the first two-and-a-half minutes of the quarter, the Valkyries grabbed the lead with just under seven minutes to play and never relinquished it. Converse held the Falcons scoreless for over six minutes between tying the game and allowing the Falcons to score their final field goal of the game.
