Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Washington’s Double-Digit Effort Not Enough Against Braves

Pembroke, N.C. – In their first Conference Carolinas matchup following the holiday break, the Converse University women's basketball team (5-7, 2-3 Conference Carolinas) fell 75-32 to the preseason-favorite UNC Pembroke Braves (9-4, 4-0 Conference Carolinas).

Junior guard Zariyah Washington was the lone Valkyrie to post double-digit points with 11. Redshirt senior center Sydney Wilson led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Valkyries shot 22% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc. They added nine points off turnovers of which they forced eight. The Braves took the lead 50 seconds into the contest and did not relinquish it again. Converse scored their first basket with four-and-a-half minutes to play in the first quarter on a free throw cutting the score to 9-1. The Braves carried that initial lead the entire 40 minutes and won 75-32.

Converse is back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 7, as they head to Greenville, South Carolina for an exhibition matchup with the Division I Furman Paladins at 2 p.m.
