MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Converse University field hockey team lost 4-0 to #6 Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon at the McDonald Complex.

With the loss, Converse falls to 5-6 overall on the season and 3-5 in South Atlantic Conference action. Mount Olive improves to 10-1 overall and 9-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.

In the first 15-minutes of the contest the two teams were deadlocked as each team attempted a single shot in the opening frame. Mount Olive attempted a trio of penalty corners in the first stanza and held Converse without a penalty corner attempt in the first quarter.  

In the second quarter the Trojans scored a goal five minutes into the period. Jemimah Krichelberg found Annefleur Moerkerken at the top of the circle for her third goal of the season. The Valkyries were able to hold off the rest of the Trojans advances and headed into the halftime break down 1-0.  

In the third quarter the Trojans offense took control of the match and scored a trio of goals against the Valkyries. Amber Dercksen scored the first goal of the period, Nikki Bos scored the second goal off a penalty stroke and Femke van Marle scored the final goal of the frame.

Mount Olive outshot Converse 16-9 overall and 13-3 in shots on goal attempts. Converse made 9 total saves while Mount Olive made 3 saves. Mount Olive attempted more penalty corners than Converse, winning the category 12-5.  

Next Up:

The Valkyries will stay on the road this coming week as they head to Limestone on Tuesday evening. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start at Saints Field.
