GAFFNEY, S.C. – For the second time this season the Converse University field hockey team finds themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 overtime game against Limestone University.
With the loss the Valkyries have now lost four in a row for the first time since the 2019 season. Converse drops to 5-7 overall and 3-6 in South Atlantic Conference action. Limestone improves to 7-3 overall and 7-3 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In the first quarter, Limestone was aggressive early as they attempted a trio of shots and penalty corners in the opening period. The Valkyries defense stood strong as they made a pair of saves in the first frame of the match. In the second quarter, Converse attempted their first shot and first penalty corner of the game. However, both teams went into the halftime intermission scoreless.
The second half remained a back-and-forth match between the two teams. Neither team yielded to the others attack, as both attempted a pair of shots in the half. At the end of regulation, the match remained scoreless.
In the overtime period the Valkyries were able to get a shot off before it was saved by the Limestone goalie. With just over five minutes to play in the first overtime period, Josefina Golppi found Falicitas Herrero Ma for the game-winner against Converse.
Converse will be back at home this weekend when they battle Wingate on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. at Weisiger Stadium.
