GREENWOOD, S.C.– The Converse University field hockey team fell 6-2 to Lander University on Tuesday afternoon at Frank Hill Stadium.
 
With the loss Converse drops to 5-5 overall on the season and 3-4 in South Atlantic Conference action, while Lander improves to 6-2 overall and 6-2 in SAC play. For Converse they have now lost back-to-back games for the first time since the 2021 season.
 
Lander got the scoring started with just four minutes left in the first quarter with a goal from Aniek Vreeken. In the second quarter the scoring continued for the Bearcats as they scored two more goals from Sara Van Hoijtema and Justina Bossa.
 
Nina Buyst found Emily Whitlow with four minutes to go before the half to give the Valkyries their first goal of the game. Lander scored two more goals before the halftime intermission and held a 5-1 lead over the Valkyries.
 
Lander's Victoria Hulst scored three minutes into the third quarter to take a 6-1 lead. Catalina Pistaccio scored a late goal to cut the Bearcat deficit to four goals.
 
Converse was outshot 20-11 overall and 14-6 in shots on goal. Converse made eight team saves and Lander made four team saves. The Bearcats also won the penalty corner battle 10-6 over the Valkyries.

Next Up:
The Valkyries will travel to nationally ranked Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
