NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team fell 4-0 to Newberry on Saturday afternoon at Setzler Field.
With the loss the Valkyries drop to 8-9 overall and 6-8 in South Atlantic Conference action. Meanwhile, Newberry sweeps the season series for the first time in two seasons and improves to 14-3 overall and 11-3 in SAC play.
Following a scoreless first quarter, in which the Valkyries kept the Wolves offense in check with six saves. Converse was not so lucky in the second quarter as Newberry scored twice before the halftime intermission.
In the second half the Wolves added goals in both the third and fourth quarters. The Wolves outshot Converse 18-5 overall and 13-5 in shots on goal.
Converse will be the sixth seed in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Tournament. The Valkyries will travel to Limestone on Tuesday night for the Quarterfinals round and a chance to advance to the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
