SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team rolled past Lincoln Memorial 8-0 on Tuesday evening at Weisiger Stadium.
With the win the Valkyries improve to 8-8 overall and 6-7 in South Atlantic Conference action this season. With the loss, Lincoln Memorial drops to 0-17 overall and 0-13 in SAC competition. The win was also the first shutout of the season for Converse. The Valkyries are now 4-0 all-time against the Railsplitters and have outscored Lincoln Memorial 29-1 overall and 20-0 at Weisiger Stadium.
Catalina Pistaccio kicked off the scoring for the Valkyries offense just 45 seconds into the contest with an unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later, Pistaccio found
Josephine Esterhues for the second goal of the game.
In the second quarter,
Remington Lewis found Pistaccio initially on the corner opportunity but the former All-American passed to freshman
Leonoor de Vreugd who found the back of the net seven minutes into the period. Just over 30 seconds later and the trio connected for their second goal of the frame. Converse went into the halftime intermission leading 4-0 over the Railsplitters.
In the third quarter the Valkyries offense put the game out of reach as
Ashley Shoffner, de Vreugd and
Remington Lewis all scored in the third quarter. Lewis scored the final two goals off of corner attempts for the Valkyries.
