SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University team used a late fourth quarter goal to secure a 3-2 win over Coker on Saturday evening at Weisiger Stadium.

With the win Converse improves to 7-8 overall and 5-7 in South Atlantic Conference action this season. The Valkyries have now won four consecutive senior day matchups dating back to the 2021 spring season. Coker falls to 2-13 overall and 1-11 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Following a scoreless opening quarter, Mariella Vallejo found Catalina Pistaccio for the first goal of the game. The lead was short lived however, as Coker tied the matchup roughly two minutes later on a Wibien Dahmen goal.

After the halftime intermission, Coker struck first in the third quarter with a goal by Cato Bartstra. The goal by Bartstra gave the Cobras their first lead of the game. Four minutes later, Pistaccio found freshman Josephine Esterhues for the equalizer.

In the fourth quarter the Valkyries dug deep and shutout the Cobras in the final quarter of action. Gwen Snijders scored her first career goal and game-winning goal for the Valkyries in the final moments of the fourth quarter to give the Valkyries the victory.  

Converse will be back at home this Tuesday evening as they battle Lincoln Memorial at Weisiger Stadium. The game is set for a 5:00 p.m. start time.
