King Slayers! Men’s Soccer Downs King 6-0

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Fueled by the rage from their midweek matchup with Bob Jones University, the Converse University men's soccer team (7-4-1, 5-2-1 Conference Carolinas) took out their frustration on the King University Tornado (3-10, 0-8 Conference Carolinas) with a 6-0 road victory.

Five different Valkyries recorded a goal in the six-goal affair. Junior forward Jaxon Keene netted two goals for the Valkyries. Converse also recorded five assists during the match, with each assist coming from a different player. The Valkyries outshot the Tornado 20-2 in the first half and 8-2 in the second half. Fourteen of the team's 28 shots were on-target.

Freshman goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez made his first start in the box against the Tornado. He made three saves and recorded his first collegiate win.

Keene got the scoring going early with an 11th minute goal assisted by junior defender Max Seiwald.

After a foul in the box, junior defender Gabriel Verona netted a penalty kick to push the Valkyries' lead to two goals.

Just when the fans began to make their way to the concession stand for halftime, junior forward Hayden Gensler netted the Valkyries' third and final goal of the first half with just three seconds remaining on the clock, with the assist coming from sophomore forward Guilherme Fontes.

Fontes got his own chance to score in the 78th minute when junior midfielder Alan Leyva assisted on Converse's fourth goal of the afternoon.

The purple and gold wrapped up their high-scoring affair with an 83rd minute goal from Keene and the first goal of the season for junior forward Joel Houston just two minutes later.

The Valkyries return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 18 as they face Belmont Abbey for the second time this season. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Belmont, North Carolina.
