SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's basketball team dropped a home contest 80-59 to Barton College on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Converse to 3-16 overall and 3-9 in Conference Carolinas action while Barton improves to 4-13 overall and 4-6 in Conference Carolinas play.

Jordan Brown scored the first Valkyrie points. A
Colbie Perry three gave Converse the 5-4 lead with 8:10 on the clock. Mingo regained the lead for Barton with a layup followed by Brown with a good free throw to tie it up at six points. Perry would sink another three for the 9-6 Converse lead. The Valkyries had as much as a seven-point lead with 4:24 remaining in the first quarter, however, the Bulldogs got the 17-16 lead with just under two minutes on the clock. Two made free throws by Cross would send Converse into the second quarter up 21-18.
Lauren Walker would start the quarter off by evening the score out at 21 all.
Sydney Wilson put two points on the board for the Valkyries with 5:02 left in the first half to make it a seven-point game. Converse continued working, eventually gaining a two-point lead on the Bulldogs. Barton tied it up with 2:06 on the clock before Kayla Byrne sank a three to give the Bulldogs the 35-32 lead going into halftime.
Barton came out of the locker room hot, scoring 31 points in the third quarter compared to Converse's 11 points, but the Valkyries regained their composure in the fourth quarter, outshooting the Bulldogs 16-14. In the final quarter, Wilson and Brown worked together to bring the Barton lead down to 20 points. The Bulldogs then scored eight unanswered points. Points were then exchanged on either side of the ball, but the Barton lead was too much for Converse to capture. The Valkyries ultimately fell 80-59 to the Bulldogs inside the Weisiger Center.
Brown led Converse with 16 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals. Wilson followed with 14 points, seven rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal. Cross had 13 points in the game while
Amaia Parkins racked up 10 rebounds.
