Valkyries Look to Bounce Back Against Mount Olive on Monday Afternoon

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – Converse's women's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Coker University on Friday evening by a score of 48-29. This drops the Valkyries to 2-14 overall and 2-7 in Conference Carolinas play while the Cobras rise to 5-10 overall and 0-7 in South Atlantic Conference play.
 
Coker outscored Converse in all four quarters of play. The game was close after the first quarter, 9-8 in the Cobras favor, before they went on a 19-7 run to advance well beyond the Valkyries. Converse attempted a comeback in the third quarter, scoring 12 points compared to Coker's 14 points. The fourth quarter was a very low scoring quarter as only eight total points were scored on either side of the ball. The two Valkyrie points in the final quarter came from free throws, one by Mackenzi Salas and the other by Mary-Grace Durham.
 
Jordan Brown led the Valkyries with nine points, six rebounds, one assist and three steals before fouling out in the middle of the fourth quarter. Sydney Wilson followed with eight points, five rebounds and one steal while Amaia Parkins led the team in the rebound category with eight on the night.

  • In the win, Laila Anderson led the Trojans with 21 points, one rebound, one assist and five steals. Haleigh Crews and Reagan Hune each followed with 13 points. Crews had five rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win while Hune had 12 rebounds, two assists and one steal.
  • Mount Olive is averaging 66.1 points per game with a .405 field goal percentage, a .247 three-point percentage and a .661 field goal percentage.
  • The Trojans are racking up 35.5 rebounds per game, 12.9 assists per game, 16.4 turnovers per game, 10.7 steals per game and 3.1 blocks per game.
  • Laila Harris leads the team overall with an average of 13.9 points per game and a total of 88 rebounds, 26 assists, 22 steals and 22 blocks. Anderson follows, averaging 9.6 points per game with 21 rebounds, 15 assists, 25 steals and one block on the year.
  • Hune leads Mount Olive in rebounds (89) while Maleiya Hill leads in assists (52) and steals (30).
