Valkyries Dismantle Dallas in 25-4 Drubbing

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a warm spring evening at Weisiger Stadium the Converse University women's lacrosse team demolished the University of Dallas 25-4 in front of a raucous crowd.

The Valkyries 25 goal outburst against Dallas ranks second all-time in school history for goals in a game. This is the most goals scored at home in school history and the most since a March 28, 2011 road game against Adams State. Against Adams State the Valkyries defeated the Grizzlies 26-9 to set the school record. With their 10-goal outburst in the opening quarter, the Valkyries also set a school record for goals in a quarter.

"It was a full team win today," Converse University head lacrosse coach Taylor Woolard said. "We had that conversation when we came in today, we had some kids back from injury and we did it together. That showed on our stats tonight as well."

The Valkyries got off to a hot start offensively, with Cassidy O'Neill (Red Deer, Canada) scoring her 30th goal of the season off an assist by Libby Stevens (Spartanburg, S.C.) less than a minute into the game. Just seconds later, Rhianna Warner (Duncan, S.C.) scored an unassisted goal to give the Valkyries a 2-0 advantage.

Warner struck again in moments later off an O'Neill assist. Holding a 3-0 advantage Brenna Everette (Mechanicsville, Va.) found Taylor Goldfuss (Simpsonville, S.C.) for her second goal of the season to put the Valkyries ahead 4-0. Everette scored her first goal of the match with 5:17 to play and then assisted on both Stevens and O'Neill's goals just seconds apart. Kailee Reel (Damascus, Md.) scored her first goal at home this season to give Converse an 8-0 edge. Everette and Stevens scored two more goals to end the opening quarter of action.

At the start of the second quarter, Gabby Dixon found Sophia Haeuser for the Crusaders first goal of the game. Everette quickly gave the Valkyries a 10-goal lead once again, with an unassisted goal at the 10:51 mark of the period. With 8:48 to play Dixon scored the second goal of the night for Dallas. Converse scored four unanswered goals to end the period with a 15-2 edge over the Crusaders. Reel Warner and Ciriaca Petitto (Yorktown, Va.) all scored goals to help the Valkyries down the stretch.

At the start of the third quarter, Stevens found Camryn Wales for her first goal of the season. A few minutes later Glodfuss found Everette for the Valkyries 17th goal of the night. Wales scored again in the third period, before Dixon scored the third goal of the match for Dallas.

Reel completed her first career hat trick at the start of the fourth quarter. Dixon scored once again for the Crusaders, this turned out to be the final goal of the night for Dallas. Stevens then scored three consecutive goals from the 10:43 mark to the 7:38 mark of the period. Warner scored off a Stevens pass for her fifth goal of the night. Stevens scored her fourth goal of the period with 2:09 remaining in the match. Petitto rounded out the Valkyries scoring with a goal at the 1:11 mark of the fourth quarter.
