Quartet of Valkyries Score against Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Converse University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision to Lees-McRae on Saturday afternoon at Tate Field.

Following a lengthy delay in the start of the game, due to the officials not being notified of game time change the Valkyries and Bobcats finally hit the field at 2:30 p.m. Lees-McRae struck first with a goal by Haley Donovan, just seconds later Kalbie Grassett scored her 34th goal of the season to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

With 10:16 to play in the opening period, Ciriaca Petitto (Yorktown, Va.) found Brenna Everette (Mechanicsville, Va.) for the Valkyries first goal of the game. Aspen Villas scored to give the Bobcats a two-goal lead once again. Rhianna Warner scored an unassisted goal to pull back within a goal of Lees-McRae at the 6:34 mark of the period. Less than 20 seconds later, Kailee Reel (Damascus, Md.) found Cassidy O'Neill (Red Deer, Canada) for the equalizer. With 45 seconds remaining in the quarter, Villas scored to give the Bobcats a 4-3 advantage going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter the Bobcats scored three consecutive goals to extend their lead to 7-3. With just six seconds to go in the half, O'Neill scored again to keep the Valkyries within striking distance of Lees-McRae.

The third quarter belonged to the Bobcats, as they scored eight unanswered goals against the Valkyries. Everette ended the Valkyries scoring drought with 14:06 to play in the final quarter. Libby Stevens (Spartanburg, S.C.) scored the Valkyries final goal of the game with 6:52 to play in the game.

Notables:
  • Everette and O'Neill tied for the team lead in goals scored with two on the afternoon. Stevens and Warner each added a goal in the loss, while three different Valkyries recorded assists. Reagan Collins (Spartanburg, S.C.) recorded eight saves on the afternoon.
Next Up:
  • The Valkyries will play their final home game of the season on Tuesday evening against North Greenville. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. at Weisiger Stadium.
