Brown Leads Converse Against Belmont Abbey

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse women's basketball team would drop their contest 53-41 to Belmont Abbey on Tuesday evening.
 
An offensively awake Converse team in the first quarter not being able to produce more than 3 points in the second quarter would ultimately take this game away from them.
 
First Quarter:
  • Belmont Abbey would win the opening tip off and score the first points of the game.
  • Jordan Brown for Converse would answer, tying the game up at 2.
  • Each team would continue to produce offensively. With the sore 14-10 in the Belmont Abbey's favor, a three-point shot from Abigail Crain would be the difference maker, allowing the Crusaders to pull away.
  • Going into the second quarter, Converse would be down 21-16.
Second Quarter:
  • 8 out of 12 points for Belmont Abbey would be earned from free throws.
  • Alliee Pattillo's deep three would be the only points produced by Converse in the quarter.
  • Going into halftime, the Valkyries trailed 33-19.
Third Quarter:
  • Coming out of the locker-room, Converse would put up 5 easy points onto the board. 2 would come from Brown's jumper and the other 3 would be from Lindsey Hardin's pull-up three.
  • The Crusaders would not be able to produce points until 4 and a half minutes were shaved off the clock. A layup from Alexis Schulz would end their scoreless quarter.
  • Another three-pointer from Pattillo and a jumper by Daven West be would the only other points that Converse would score in the quarter.
  • The Valkyries were down 45-29 going into the last quarter of play.
Fourth Quarter:
  • West would start the quarter off for the Valkyries by scoring a driving layup.
  • Final points scored for Converse would come from Sydney Wilson and Brown. Wilson would score a layup, assisted by Brown. After that, Brown would score an unassisted jumper followed by a layup assisted by Wilson.
  • In the end, Converse would drop this contest 53-41 to Belmont Abbey.
 
Brown lead Converse in points (16), assists (3) and steals (5). Wilson had 8 points and 6 rebounds on the night.

Schulz had 16 points for the Crusaders on the night. Brittany Autry followed her with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Taylor Stelley led in assists and steals having 6 and 3 respectively.
 
Next Up:
The Valkyries will travel to Barton College and Francis Marion on Friday and Saturday night.
