Davenport’s Offensive Efforts Not Enough Against Barton

WILSON, N.C. – The Converse Valkyries women's basketball team lost their first road game of the weekend 87-55 to the Barton Bulldogs.
 
Converse (3-18, 2-16) picked up another road loss while Barton (21-1, 17-1) was awarded a win on their senior night.
 
First Quarter:
  • Shanika Peterkin for the Barton Bulldogs would win the opening tip-off and score the first 2 points of the game. Following that, a pair of free throws for Alisa Davenport would tie the game at 2.
  • After Converse's points, Barton would go on a 16-0 run. Lindsey Hardin would end the Valkyries scoring drought with a jumper.
  • Daven West and Sydney Wilson contributed 2 points each, bringing the Valkyries closer to Barton's lead of 20-8 going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter:
  • Jami Tham scored the first points of the quarter for Barton making it a 22-8 game.
  • A three-point shot from the logo by Zahra Cross would give the Valkyries and the bench some energy. Jordan Brown and Hardin would follow with layups, upping the Valkyries score to 19 compared to Barton's 33 points.
  • Colbie Perry's three-point shot would make it a 10-point game with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter.
  • The Bulldogs would make up some ground and go into halftime with the 43-25 lead.
Third Quarter:
  • With a driving layup, Brown scored the first points of the second half.
  • Alisa Davenport kicked things into gear during the quarter scoring 10 points by herself.
  • However, Barton's offensive was locked and loaded not allowing for Converse to draw near their lead of 64-39 going into the final quarter of play.
Fourth Quarter:
  • With Barton's first free-throw of the quarter taken by Jami Tham, she would become a member of the 1,000-point club and tally her 21st point of the night.
  • Davenport continued her scoring streak, shooting a jumper for her 14th point of the game.
  • With Barton up by 30 points, Converse would call a timeout to talk things over with 6 minutes left in the game.
  • At the conclusion of the game, the final score of 87-55 was in Barton's favor.
 
Davenport led Converse in points with 14 on the night. Wilson had 10 points, Brown had 8 points and Cross had 7 points. Amaia Parkins led the Valkyries in the rebound category recording 6 rebounds on the night.

Tham led Barton with 21 points followed by Peterkin who had 19 points and Michelle Gainey with 18 points. Peterkin recorded a team-high 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks while Tham led the Bulldogs with 5 steals.
 
Next Up:
The Valkyries will travel to Florence, S.C. tomorrow to face the Francis Marion Patriots at 2:00 p.m.
