Brown, Hardin and Wilson Lead Valkyries with Double-Digit Points Against Francis Marion

Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – The Valkyries women's basketball was unable to hold of the Francis Marion Patriots on Saturday afternoon, dropping the contest by a score of 75-69.
 
Converse (3-19, 2-17 Conference Carolinas) never held a lead in the game as Lauryn Taylor for Francis Marion (13-9, 12-8 Conference Carolinas) scored an impressive 30 points by herself.
 
First Quarter:
  • Converse would win the opening tip-off, but Scarlett Gilmore for Francis Marion would be the first to score points.
  • After the Patriots scored eight unanswered buckets, Jordan Brown would end the Valkyries scoring drought with a pair of free throws.
  • Five points by Lindsey Hardin and a hook shot by Sydney Wilson would bring Converse within three points of Francis Marion's lead.
  • The Patriots would continue to put in work and go into the second quarter with a 19-9 lead over the Valkyries.
Second Quarter:
  • A minute into the quarter, Lauryn Taylor for Francis Marion would score the first points of the quarter. Converse's Zahra Cross would immediately answer, scoring two points for the Valkyries.
  •  At the media timeout, Converse would trail 27-16.
  • A deep three by Taylor would give the Patriots and 10-point lead again as well as giving her her 15th point of the game.
  • A last second shot by Hardin would send the Valkyries into the locker-room only down 35-22.
Third Quarter:
  • The Patriots would score the first six points of the second half before the Valkyries answered with seven points of their own to make it a 41-29 game.
  • Brown would lead the Valkyries in points this quarter, putting eight points onto the board.
  • Going into the final quarter of play, Francis Marion would hold a 59-42 lead.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Francis Marion would come out firing, scoring the first six points of the final quarter and making it a 20-point ballgame. Hardin would end the Patriots run with a three-point shot of her own.
  • Continuing to make points, the Patriots would have a 70-52 lead with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
  • Brown would make it a nine-point game with a minute and a half left in the game.
  • In the end, Francis Marion would come out on top, defeating Converse 75-69.
 
Brown led the Valkyries with 21 points on the afternoon. She also had five rebounds and four steals. Hardin followed Brown in points with 18 of her own, three rebounds and two steals. Wilson also finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Amaia Parkins led Converse in the assist and block categories, dishing the ball four times with two blocks.
 
Taylor led the Patriots in points (30) and rebounds (21). Scarlett Gilmore followed her with 11 points and five rebounds on the afternoon. MiLeia Owens led the team with 4 assists.
 
Next Up:
Converse women's basketball will return to North Carolina on Tuesday, February 15 to make up a postponed game against Belmont Abbey.
