Valkyries Unsuccessful in Battle Against Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Converse Valkyries women's basketball falls 74-47 in a tough match against the Mount Olive Trojans.
 
After only being down by 2 points going into the second quarter, Converse was unable to make up ground after Mount Olive's offense started clicking from there on out.
 
First Quarter:
  • Mount Olive would win the opening tip-off, scoring first and putting 2 points up on the board.
  • Amaia Parkins would answer for the Valkyries, tying the game early at 2.
  • A minute and a half later, Jordan Brown would give Converse the lead of 4-2.
  • After going back and forth, the Trojans would go into the second quarter only being up by 2 points.
Second Quarter:
  • The quarter would start with a technical foul called on Mount Olive's head coach, resulting in a free shot attempt for Converse. Colbie Perry would shoot and score, making the score 14-13.
  • The Trojans would go on a 15-4 run, making the score 34-23.
  • Daven West would get a pair of points on the scoreboard for Converse in the final seconds of the first half.
  • The Valkyries would head into the locker-room down 41-25 for halftime.
Third Quarter:
  • Coming into the second half and looking to make some adjustments, Converse would score their first point of the half off a free throw by Alisa Davenport.
  • A slow scoring quarter for Converse would only result in 11 points being scored, 4 of them coming from Sydney Wilson.
  • At the end of the period, the Trojans would have a lead of 57-36 over the Valkyries.
Fourth Quarter:
  • A three-point shot from Makayla Kimble would give the Trojans the first points of the final quarter.
  • Ayonna Cotten scoring back-to-back layups would force Converse to call an early timeout to regroup.
  • 6 unanswered points from Wilson and the Valkyries would bring them closer to Mount Olive's lead of 68-46.
  • Ultimately, Converse would be unable to catch Mount Olive's lead, falling to the Trojans 74-47.
 
Wilson led the Valkyries in points, tallying 14 on the night. Brown followed her with 12 points, West with 6 points and Parkins with 4 points. Zahra Cross led the team with 8 rebounds. Brown had 7 rebounds and 5 steals as well.

Laila Harris led Mount Olive in points, clocking in with 14 points during the contest and 6 steals. Azariah Field followed close behind with 12 points. Asia Smith led the Trojans with 7 rebounds while Ivanda Hudjakova had 4 assists.
