SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's lacrosse team fell 22-13 to Oglethorpe on Saturday afternoon at Hayden Abney Fulp Field Inside Weisiger Stadium.
Despite scoring 10-second half goals the Valkyries were unable to overcome a slow first half to pick up their first win of the 2022 season. Oglethorpe (5-0) raced out to a 6-0 lead before Converse (0-3) was able to score their first goal of the game with 10:05 to play in the second quarter. At the end of the first half the Valkyries trailed 9-3.
Midway through the third quarter the Valkyries offense scored four consecutive goals and pulled within a trio of goals of Oglethorpe. The Valkyries appeared to have the momentum and looked to be mounting a monumental comeback against Oglethorpe. It would not last, however, as the Stormy Petrels scored a trio of goals and captured the momentum once again. Despite the Valkyries best attempts in the fourth quarter, Converse was unable to complete the comeback.
