BRISTOL, TENN. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 87-76 on Tuesday night at King University.
With the loss on Tuesday night the Valkyries have now lost two straight games and they will finish the season with a 1-13 road game record. For the fourth time overall this season and the second time against King University
Earl Burgess III (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished with a double-double.
1st Half Notes:
- Michael Mays scored the first points of the game for either side with a three-pointer less than 15 seconds into the game.
- Elijah Pitts (Gainesville, Ga.) answered with a three-pointer of his own in the Valkyries next possession down the court. Pitts scored the first eight points of the game against King, before Burgess III made a layup with 16:43 to play.
- Following an 8-0 run by the Tornado the Valkyries offense began to chip away at the King lead. With 11:30 to play in the half, Jimmie Sanders III (Dallas, Texas) made a fastbreak layup and the Valkyries were back with a pair.
- The Valkyries were unable to capitalize off the offensive momentum and they trailed going into the halftime break 48-38.
- Converse shot 43 percent from the field in the first half, 31 percent from three-point range and 62 percent from the free throw line.
2nd Half Notes:
- Once again Mays opened up the period with a three-point field goal.
- Pitts and Will Searl (Orlando, Fla.) helped the Valkyries get on the board in the second half.
- For the entire second half, the Valkyries attempted to pull within single-digits of the Tornado.
- Burgess III scored the final four-points of the game for the Valkyries.
- Converse scored 38 points in the second half and 41.9 percent from the field. The Valkyries also shot 16 percent from three-point range and 63 percent from the free throw line.
Notables:
- Burgess III finished with his fourth double-double of the season and recorded a team high 21-points and 10-rebounds in the loss. Jordan Warlick finished second on the team with 17-points and 9-rebounds. Elijah Pitts contributed 15-points and Jimmie Sanders III added 12-points in the loss.
Next Up:
The Valkyries will conclude the 2021-22 regular season with a home game against Emmanuel on Thursday evening.
