Trio of Valkyries Reach Double-Figures in Season Finale against Emmanuel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 64-57 to Emmanuel on Thursday night inside the Weisiger Center.

The Converse men's basketball team gave it their all in the regular season finale against Emmanuel on Thursday night. The Valkyries used multiple runs in the opening half and made key baskets at the right time to take 30-26 halftime lead. In the second half the Valkyries held the lead and the momentum for the majority of the half, but a late comeback by the Lions hurt the Valkyries down the stretch.

1^st Half Notes:

Jayvion Rucker scored the opening basket of the game for either team and helped Emmanuel race out to a 5-0 advantage.
Jimmie Sanders III scored the first basket of the game for Converse with 17:36 to play in the opening half.
With 15:06 to play Emmanuel held a 12-3 lead, before Sanders III converted on a trio of free throw attempts to cut the lead in half.
Sanders III scored the first 10-points of the game for Converse, at the 11:45 mark of the period Elijah Pitts became the second Valkyrie to score in the game.
A moments later Earl Burgess III stole the ball and scored a fastbreak basket to tie the game at 17. On the Valkyries next possession down the court Burgess III gave Converse their first lead of the match at 19-18.
With 1:56 to play in the period Will Searl hit back-to-back three pointers to give the Valkyries a 30-22 edge.
Converse went into the halftime intermission with a 34-26 lead over Emmanuel. Converse shot 36 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from the three-point line and 100 percent from the free throw line.

2^nd Half Notes:

Kelvin Jones scored the opening basket in the second half.
Converse opened the second half on a 6-0 run and held a 36-28 advantage over the Lions.
Both teams then matched each other shot-for-shot, until Emmanuel tied the game at 46 with 9:14 to play.
With 5:33 to play in the game the match was knotted at 50 between the two squads. Emmanuel used a 7-0 run to take the momentum away from the Valkyries.
Converse was unable to makeup the difference as time ran out. The Valkyries shot 38.5 percent from the field in the second half. Converse also shot 33.3 percent from three-point range and 44 percent from the free throw line.

Notables:

Sanders III led the Valkyries in points (15) and assists (6) on Thursday night. Burgess III finished with 13-points and Pitts contributed 10-points in the loss. Warlick led the team with 7-rebounds and a pair of blocks.
