SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a beautiful sunny day in the Sparkle City, the Converse University women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener 14-13 to Montreat College at Hayden Abney Fulp Field inside Weisiger Stadium.
The day started out with the official ribbon cutting ceremony for Weisiger Stadium and the Valkyries offense got off to a hot start scoring the first two goals of the game. By the end of the first quarter the two teams were tied at four. In the second quarter, Montreat (3-1) scored the first three goals of the period to take a 7-4 advantage over Converse (0-1). The Valkyries battled back and trailed 8-7 at the halftime break.
Following the intermission break
Madelyn Robinson scored the first goal of the period for Converse and tied the match at eight. For the remainder of the period the two squads remained deadlocked as they went goal-for-goal at either end. In the fourth quarter the Cavaliers struck twice in a matter of seconds and took a two-goal lead with 6:25 to play in the game. Libby Stevens scored with 3:33 to play but time ran out before the Valkyries were able to find the equalizer.

- The Valkyries will have a few days off before playing Shorter on Wednesday night at Fulp Field inside Weisiger Stadium. The game is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
