Converse Falls on the Road to Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Converse University women's basketball comes up short by a score of 57-44 on the road to the Southern Wesleyan Warriors.
 
Converse (4-21, 3-18 Conference Carolinas) was led by Keyshuna Fair in the fourth quarter who scored 10 straight points, but Southern Wesleyan's (6-19, 5-16 Conference Carolinas) strong start would set them up for success to claim victory.
 
First Quarter:
  • The Warriors would win the opening tip off and go on to score the first four points of the game.
  • Zahra Cross would answer with a layup, getting two points up on the board for the Valkyries.
  • SWU would outscore Converse 13-3 the rest of the quarter making their lead 17-5 going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter:
  • Again, the Warriors would score the first points of the quarter, but Jordan Brown would get two points on the board for Converse, making it a 19-7 game.
  • Making up ground, a Colbie Perry three-pointer would bring the Valkyries within 12 of the Warriors' lead.
  • Five points at the end of the end of the quarter would allow for SWU to head into the locker-room with a 31-15 lead over Converse.
Third Quarter:
  • Coming out of halftime, the Valkyries would score the first points of the second half.
  • The Warriors would go on a 10-2 run before the Valkyries would take over on scoring.
  • Six unanswered points in the last three minutes of the quarter would allow for Converse to go into the final quarter of play down 43-28.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Keyshuna Fair would start the quarter out by scoring 10 straight points for the Valkyries making it a 43-38 game.
  • The Warriors would answer with seven points of their own, now leading by 12 points.
  • Fair would bring Converse within 10 points with 1:06 left, but SWU would end up winning 57-44.
 
Fair led Converse with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Amaia Parkins led in rebounds with 13 and blocks (5).
 
Brittany Mack led SWU with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kayla Garrett followed her with 11 points six rebounds.
 
Next Up:
Converse will travel to Bristol, Tenn. on Tuesday evening to face the King Tornado.
