CENTRAL, S.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 92-56 to Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon inside historic Tysinger Gymnasium.
Converse (6-20, 5-17 Conference Carolinas) started the game on a 7-2 run before Southern Wesleyan tied the game a few possessions later. The Warriors used a 13-0 run to take a decisive advantage and never looked back as the Valkyries played from behind the rest of the game.
1st Half Notes:
- Elijah Pitts scored the first points of the game for either side with a three-point basket.
- Converse opened the game on a 7-2 run as the Valkyries offense started the game perfect from the field.
- Following an Earl Burgess III layup, the Valkyries offense fell silent over the next few minutes of game time. Southern Wesleyan took advantage with a 13-0 run to a 26-12 lead.
- Warlick ended the scoring drought with his first three-pointer of the game with 8:34 to play in the half.
- At the halftime break the Valkyries trailed 43-23, Converse shot 29 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 66 percent from the free throw line.
- Southern Wesleyan shot 48 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 25 percent from the free throw line.
2nd Half Notes:
- Once again it was Converse that scored the first points of the period, when Burgess III scored his 10th point of the game with 19:38 to play in the period.
- Following the score by Burgess III the Warriors then went on a 20-8 run over the next nine minutes of action.
- The Valkyries were outscored 49-33 in the second half, while shooting 35 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and 62 percent from the free throw line.
- Southern Wesleyan shot 51 percent from the field, 35 percent from three-point range and 100 percent from the free throw line.
Notables:
- Pitts led the team with 16-points and was an even 50 percent from the field against the Warriors. Burgess III finished second on the team with 14-points, while Jordan Warlick led the team in rebounds for the second straight game.

The Valkyries will stay on the road this coming Tuesday as they head to the Volunteer State to take on the King Tornado.
