Converse Crushes Erskine for First Road Win in Program History

DUE WEST, S.C.  – The Converse University men's basketball team went wire-to-wire in a 95-65 drubbing of Erskine on Wednesday night to secure their first road win in program history.  
 
The historic win will also go down as the Valkyries largest win margin in program history and the most points scored in program history. Converse (6-21, 5-16 Conference Carolinas) won in large part by shooting lights out from the field and getting to the free throw line. The Valkyries attempted and scored a school record 28-of-33 free throw attempts.  
 
1st Half Notes:
  • Converse opened the game on a 10-3 run and never looked back in the opening half.
  • Head Coach Ryan Saunders was called for a technical foul with 14:15 to play.
  • The Valkyries offense stayed hot and held a 25-16 advantage with 7:30 to play in the period.
  • The best offense is a good defense as the Valkyries forced 13 turnovers in the opening half and converted several into highlight dunks.
  • With six minutes to play in the half the Valkyries led 34-18 over the next three minutes of game time the Valkyries increased their lead to 41-18.
  • At the halftime break Converse held a 46-28 advantage and shot 51 percent from the field. The Valkyries shot 26 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line.
  • Jordan Warlick had a double-double at the halftime break with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance.
 
2nd Half Notes:
  • Converse opened the second half on a 10-2 run and extended their lead to 56-30.
  • With 11:16 to play the Valkyries held a 68-36 advantage, a few moments later the Valkyries found themselves in the double bonus with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
  • Converse continued to stay aggressive both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Scoring 49 second half points and holding the Flying Fleet to 31 percent shooting in the half.
  • Every player that dressed for Converse on Wednesday night scored at least one basket in the victory.

The Valkyries will stay on the road this coming Saturday as they travel to Southern Wesleyan for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
