Valkyries Unable to Fend off Lions

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – Converse women's basketball drops a road game at Emmanuel College on Tuesday night by a score of 79-52.
 
Converse (3-14, 2-12 Conference Carolinas) was unable to put the pieces together after a strong first quarter. Only being up by 3 points going into the second quarter, Emmanuel (5-12, 5-9 Conference Carolinas) would kickstart their offense, being up 45-28 at halftime. Outscoring Converse 13-9 in the third quarter, Emmanuel would start the fourth quarter up 58-37. Continuing to make shots in the paint, the Lions would pick up their fifth win of the season.
 
First Quarter:
  • Jordan Brown for Converse would be the first to put points on the board for either team, giving the Valkyries an early lead.
  • After exchanging points, a Sydney Wyatt three-pointer would bring Emmanuel within 1 point of Converse.
  • At the first media timeout, the Valkyries would have a lead of 13-10 over the Lions.
  • An 8-2 run by Emmanuel would send them into the second quarter up 18-15.
Second Quarter:
  • Emmanuel would score the first 3 points of the quarter before Keyshuna Fair would put 3 points on the board for Converse.
  • The Lions offensive would kick things into gear, scoring 9 unanswered points.
  • Brown would end the scoring drought for Converse, putting 2 points on the scoreboard for the Valkyries.
  • A three-point shot from the logo by Emmanuel's Allison Smith would send the Lions into halftime with a lead of 45-28.
Third Quarter:
  • After a minute was shaved off the clock before points were put on the board, Emmanuel would be the first to score, expanding their lead to 19 points.
  • Brown would answer with a layup for the Valkyries.
  • Converse would call a timeout with 4 minutes left in the quarter after reaching the 20-point deficit mark.
  • The Valkyries would be outscored 13-9 in the third quarter and heading into the final quarter down 58-37.
Fourth Quarter:
  • After another slow start, Emmanuel would put up the first points of the quarter.
  • A pair of free throws from Zahra Cross would give Converse their first points of the final quarter.
  • Back-to-back three-point shots from Macy Passmore and Amia Brown would put the Lions ahead 75-50.
  • Emmanuel would come out on top, winning 79-52.
 
Brown and Cross were Converse's leading scorers, each putting 12 points up on the board. Brown also led the team in rebounds with 7 while Cross led in assists with 3 on the night. Amaia Parkins led in blocks, tallying a total of 3 blocks.

Wyatt led the Lions in points, contributing 18 points to their win. Jazmin Allen followed with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Jeanetta Elder had 2 blocks during the game, leading the team in this category.
 
Next Up:
Converse will continue with their road games, visiting Mount Olive on Friday, February 4 and Chowan on the 5th.
