Dawkins Leads Valkyries Trio of Double-Digit Scorers

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 80-70 to Coker on Monday afternoon inside the DeLoach Center.
 
With the loss the Valkyries have now lost back-to-back games and fall to 6-7 overall on the season. Converse is now 0-6 in games played away from the Weisiger Center and they are now 0-5 against South Atlantic Conference schools this season.
 
1st Half Notes:
  • Marvin Brumfield scored the first points of the game for either side with 19:19 to play in the opening half.
  • NyGel Boozer hit a three-pointer for the Valkyries first points of the game at 18:57 and jump started a 6-2 Valkyries run.
  • Despite racing out to a 15-8 advantage early in the first half, the Valkyries saw their lead diminish over the next several minutes of game time.
  • William Asken scored the go-ahead layup for the Cobras at 21-20 with 8:11 to play in the opening period.
  • The Valkyries and the Cobras went back-and-forth throughout the rest of the first half, but Coker started to pull away and with 2:32 to play, the Valkyries faced an 11-point deficit.
  • Trey Smith scored the last two baskets of the first half and the Valkyries trailed 39-32 going into the locker room.
  • Converse shot 50 percent in the first half, 55 percent from three-point range and 16 percent from the free throw line.
 
2nd Half Notes:
  • Jamie Muldowney scored the first points of the second half to give Coker a 42-32 lead over the Valkyries.
  • Uzziah Dawkins scored the first points of the half for Converse with a three-pointer at the 17:47 mark of the period.
  • Over the next 90 seconds of game time the Cobras used an 8-0 run to take a 15-point lead over the Valkyries.
  • Converse hung around and with 13:33 to play Earl Burgess III made a layup to pull the Valkyries back within single-digits.
  • The Valkyries were never able to overcome the deficit as Uzziah Dawkins scored the final points of the half to make it an 80-70 loss.
  • Converse shot 60 percent from the field in the second half, 75 percent from three-point range and 91 percent from the free throw line.

The Valkyries will have some time off before traveling down the road to Limestone University on December 31st. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
