SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's basketball team fell to the Francis Marion Patriots on Wednesday evening by a score of 69-51. The Valkyries fall to 1-9 on the season and 1-4 in Conference Carolinas play. Francis Marion improves to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in Conference Carolinas action.
A good jumper from
Jordan Brown would start the game off followed by two points from
Sydney Wilson. Points would then be exchanged between the teams, but the Patriots would gain a lead to go into the second quarter up 17-13.
Wilson would bring the Valkyries within two to start the second quarter but then a three-pointer from Francis Marion's Scarlett Gilmore would push the Patriots lead back up to five.
Alisa Davenport fought hard for the Valkyries to bring the Patriots lead down to just one as she scored back-to-back three-pointers. Francis Marion then scored 13 unanswered points to go into the break with the 39-25 lead.
Jasmine Stanley scored first for the Patriots coming out of halftime before a Valkyrie point was added to the scoreboard. Converse went to work in the third quarter to outscore Francis Marion 15-12 to bring the deficit to just 11 points going into the final quarter.
Brown scored four points to open up the fourth quarter, however, the Valkyries would not score again until almost three minutes later. Francis Marion pushed their lead to 21 points in four minutes as they held Converse scoreless. Wilson ended the game with a jumper to make the final score 69-51 in the Patriots favor.
Wilson and Brown each led the team with 10 points while Wilson recorded two rebounds and two assists and Brown racked up four rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Converse will travel to Barton College on Saturday afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
