ANNAPOLIS, MD. – Earlier today synapsesports.com released their annual postseason field hockey awards,
Lotte Kanters (Loosdrecht, Netherlands) was named National Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-American.
Joining Kanters on the First Team is
Josephine Jense (Amsterdam, Netherlands) who was also named to the publications All-Rookie Team.
Catalina Pistaccio (Buenos Aires, Argentina) found her way onto the Second Team All-American list.
"These three have put in hard work since day one of the season with the goal of Converse Field Hockey becoming a national power, and they helped do just that this year." Converse University head field hockey coach
Valerie Clarke said. "They are true team players who always put the team first over themselves, so it is so great to have them recognized individually for their amazing skill."
Kanters by far was the best offensive player in the nation, the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year led the nation in points per game (3.58), goals per game (1.47) and finished tied for second in assists per game (0.63). Kanters finished the season with 28 goals, 12 assists, 68 points, 120 shots, 71 shots on goal and 7 game-winning goals. For Kanters this is her first All-America honor and her first Offensive Player of the Year honor by synapsesports.com.
"For Lotte to lead all of Division II by a wide margin in points and goals, just shows how dangerous she is in front of the goal," Clarke said. "Lotte and Cata had breakout first season, so it is great to see them continue earning the awards in their second year."
Jense became the first freshman in program history to earn All-America status by a publication. The Dutch native earned South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors earlier in the season. Jense anchored a defense that finished second in the nation in goals against average (0.73) and shutouts per game (0.53). For Jense this is her first All-America honor and she becomes the third Valkyrie to be named to the All-Rookie team.
"Pien is just one of the best players in Division II, so to have her as an All-American as a freshman just speaks to what she did all season shutting down other teams' top players as our center back," Clarke added.
Pistaccio earned Second Team All-America honors after another standout season on the field for the Valkyries. The South Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP finished with 15 goals, 10 assists, 40 points, 93 shots, 58 shots on goal and 6 game-winning goals. For Pistaccio this is her first All-America honor by any publication.
"What an honor for our team to be recognized nationally. The future is so bright for Converse Field Hockey!" Clarke stated.
