Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wilson Leads Converse with Double-Double Against Erskine

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse women's basketball team dropped a home contest to Erskine on Saturday afternoon inside the Weisiger Center while Sydney Wilson recorded a double-double. The 35-32 loss moves the Valkyries to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in Conference Carolinas play while Erskine moves to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in Conference Carolinas action.

Alisa Davenport scored the first points of the game with a three-pointer. Neither team would put any points on the board until two minutes later when Wilson scored in the paint. The Valkyries would hold off scoring while Erskine racked up nine points. A jumper from Zahra Cross would be the last shot sunk by Converse as they went into the second quarter down 15-7.

The Flying Fleet made it an 18-7 game to start the second quarter before Wilson got the Valkyries back on the board with a good layup. Davenport followed with four more points to bring Converse within five. A free throw by Erskine's Albany Wilson would be the last point of the half as the teams headed into the locker room.

Down 20-16 coming out of the break, Converse went to work early, getting two points on the board. However, the Fleet battled hard to maintain their lead, ending the third quarter with a 33-24 advantage.

The Valkyries bounced back in the final quarter of action, holding Erskine to only two points. Cross' layup with just under a minute left to play would bring the Fleet's advantage down to just two points, but a good free throw from Alexis Burce secured the win for Erskine as they picked up their first Conference Carolinas win of the season.

Wilson led Converse on the day with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Cross followed with nine points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Jordan Brown led the team in blocks with two while Davenport led in steals with three.
