Bojovic Shines in Return to Belmont Abbey

 BELMONT, N.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 89-68 to Belmont Abbey on Tuesday night in the Wheeler Center.

With the loss the Valkyries start 0-1 in Conference Carolina action for the first time in program history. Last season the Valkyries defeated King in their conference opener to start 1-0 in their conference slate. Bosko Bojovic made his return to Belmont Abbey and did not disappoint, Bojovic led the team in points (16) and rebounds (7). With the win Belmont Abbey ended a four-match losing streak and starts the conference portion of the schedule with a winning record.
 
1st Half Notes:
  • Following a missed three-pointer from Belmont Abbey, Bojovic scored the opening points of the game for either side with 18:39 remaining in the half.
  • Belmont Abbey then scored eight unanswered to take an early advantage against the Valkyries.
  • Converse was unable to slow down the Belmont Abbey offense in the first half and with 7:04 to play the Valkyries trailed 32-12. The Valkyries went into the halftime break down 42-29.
  • Converse shot 47 percent from the field in the first half, 37 percent from three-point range and 36 percent from the free throw line.
 
2nd Half Notes:
  • Bojovic scored the first three-points of the second half for Converse. For the remainder of the half the Valkyries attempted to cut into the Crusaders lead.
  • With 4:12 to play in the game, Belmont Abbey held a large lead over the Valkyries. Converse ran out of time and trailed by as many as 24-points in the second half. Kevin Vance scored the final points of the match for Converse.
  • Converse scored 39 points in the second half and 52 percent from the field. The Valkyries also shot 37 percent from three-point range and 55 percent from the free throw line.

Next Up:
The Valkyries will stay on the road this weekend with a match against Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
