SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team shot 51 percent from the field and scored 41 points off the bench in a 85-61 throttling of Allen University on Saturday afternoon inside the Weisiger Center.
With the win on Saturday, Converse improves to 1-3 on the season, while falls to 0-3 on the year. 10 different Valkyries scored in the game and seven players scored at least 8-points in the match.
Sigurd Lorange led the team with 17-points on the night, while
Aaron Porcil finished second on the team with 11-points on the night. The Valkyries 85-points are the most in a game since they scored a school record 95 points against Erskine back in February.
1st Half Notes:
- Bosko Bojovic scored the first five points of the game for the Valkyries and jump started the Converse offense as they opened on an 11-2 run against the Yellowjackets.
- Allen countered with a 12-7 run of their own and cut the Valkyrie lead down to four points with 10:49 to play in the opening period.
- Converse was not phased by the quick run by the Yellowjackets, as the Valkyries went on an 18-4 run to take control of the game. The Valkyries eventually held a 22-point lead over Allen with two-minutes to play in the period and went into the locker room break up 45-26.
- Converse shot 51 percent from the field in the first half, 35 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line.
2nd Half Notes:
- The first points of the second half were scored in a unique way as Lorange converted on a technical foul free throw to give the Valkyries the first points of the period with 18:24 to play.
- With 14:25 to play in the half, Aaron Porcil made a layup and the Valkyries lead was back to 20-points at 53-33.
- For the remainder of the period the Valkyries and the Yellowjackets went back-and-forth with the Valkyries never yielding their double-digit lead. Jordan Warlick hit the final three-pointer of the game for Converse.
- Converse scored 40 points in the second half and 52 percent from the field. The Valkyries also shot 33 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the free throw line.
