SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The No. 8 Converse University Field Hockey team dominated Saturday's senior day game against Lincoln Memorial, as the Valkyries won 12-0 over the Railsplitters.
The Valkyries 12 goals in the match set a new school record for goals in a game. The Valkyries also set school records for assists in a match (10), points (34), shots (42) and shots on goal (32). Converse also tied the school record for hattricks in a match with two on the afternoon.
Teana Maloney recorded her first career hattrick, while
Lotte Kanters picked up her fourth of the season.
It did not take long for the Valkyries to get on the scoreboard as
Catalina Pistaccio found Maloney for the first goal of the match just 35 seconds into the opening period. Moments later Kanters found Maloney again for the Valkyries second goal of the game.
Julia Matthijssen found
Luisa Fasold for the Valkyries third goal in the period.
The Converse offense continued to be relentless in the second quarter of action,
Emily Whitlow scored the fourth goal of the game just a minute into the second stanza. Pistaccio found Bradeen for her second assist of the afternoon, with the goal Bradeen tied the freshman record for goals in a season with eight. The nations leading scorer found the goal for the first time in the second quarter, when
Larissa Stanjeck found Kanters for the Valkyries sixth goal of the half.
In the third quarter, Fasold and Kanters connected on a pair of goals to the Valkyries an 8-0 advantage. With the multi-goal outburst in the third quarter, Kanters completed the hattrick against the Railsplitters.
Four Valkyries found the back of the net in the final quarter of action.
Samantha Sparks found the back of the net first for the Valkyries, followed by
Aubree Dorsey, Maloney and Whitlow. For Sparks and Dorsey, they were the first goals of their collegiate careers.
Converse ends the regular season with a school record 15 total wins and 11 South Atlantic Conference victories.
