SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey clinched the Mountain Division title and a trip to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 2-1 win over Newberry on Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium.
For the second consecutive season the Valkyries will host the South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championships at Weisiger Stadium. The win on Tuesday evening also broke the school record for wins in a single season and it was the Valkyries first season sweep of Newberry in program history.
Throughout the opening quarter the two teams played evenly as both teams took turns testing the other teams defense. The Valkyries held the edge offensively with a trio of shots in the opening period of action.
In the second quarter, Converse took over offensively as they attempted five corners in the period and held the Wolves without a shot for the entire frame. Midway through the period,
Lotte Kanters scored on a penalty stroke to give the Valkyries the early momentum.
Coming out of the halftime break the Valkyries appeared to hold all the momentum once again on the offensive side of the ball. Late in the period

Catalina Pistaccio for the Valkyries second goal of the night.
