MARS HILL, N.C. – The Converse University women's tennis team knocked off Mars Hill 4-3 at the Hart Tennis Complex this weekend.
The Valkyries got off to a slow start in the doubles portion of the match as their top tandems faltered against the Lions. The No. 3 pairing of
Marleen Prinz and
Natalie White were the lone bright spot with a 6-2 win against the doubles team of Maria Razzetta and Hannah Frazer.
Trailing 1-0 the Valkyries dropped a pair of courts early at both the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. Seemingly unphased by the early deficit,
Khushi Kharb gave the Valkyries their first point of the match with a straight sets win at No. 2 singles.
Prinz carried the momentum into her match at the No. 4 singles flight and won in straight sets over her opponent. At the No. 5 singles court,
Lais Martins tied the match at 3-3 following a straight sets win over Razzetta. At the sixth and final court, White won a three set thriller to give the Valkyries their first team win of the season.
The Converse tennis teams will be back in action later this month against Newberry College. For more information on the Converse tennis programs log onto
