No. 8 Converse Defangs Cobras

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team defeated Coker 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Abney Fulp Field at Weisiger Stadium.

Converse (8-0, 5-0 SAC) has now won 10-straight matches dating back to last season. Lotte Kanters became the first Valkyrie to score a trio of hat-tricks in a single season. Coker meanwhile drops to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Valkyries potent offense didn't take long to get on the board, as Luisa Fasold connected with Lotte Kanters in the two minutes of the game for the opening goal. A few moments later the Coker offense began to methodically work their way down the field and broke through for the equalizer. Then Kelsey Sithole gave Coker a 2-1 lead midway through the opening quarter. It was just the second time all season the Valkyries faced a deficit.

The lead did not last long however, as Catalina Pistaccio and Kanters scored back-to-back goals to give the Valkyries a 3-2 lead going into the quarter break. In the second quarter Bradeen and Toranzo scored on passes from Caroline Blair and Pistaccio. At the halftime break the Valkyries held a commanding 5-2 advantage.

In the third and fourth quarters the Valkyries defense buckled down and shutout the Cobras offense. Blair found Kanters for the only goal in the second half to complete the hat-trick for the Dutch native.
