BELMONT, N.C. – The Converse University field hockey team fell 3-1 on Tuesday evening to Belmont Abbey at Alumni Field.
Converse (1-1) has now lost four straight at Belmont Abbey (1-0) dating back to the inception of the team. The loss also snaps a two-game winning streak the Valkyries had over the Crusaders.
Mira Polzer (Munich, Germany) ended the night as the leading scorer for the Valkyries with a goal in the 54
th minute. Polzer also led the team with five total shots and four shots on goal. Fellow countrymen
Luisa Fasold (Wolfenbuttel, Germany) picked up the assist on the goal scored by Polzer.
Lotte Kanters finished second on the team with three total shots and one shot on goal.
Bo Linders and Layal Frost both ended the night with a pair of shot attempts in the match. Starting goalkeeper
Caroline Bailey allowed one goal in the first half while making a pair of saves.
Kathryn Daniels started the second half and allowed a pair of goals in 30 minutes of action.
Gianna Conti scored all three goals for the Crusaders on Tuesday night. Isabella Grasso and Jessica Rybicki each had a pair of shots and assisted on two of the goals scored for Belmont Abbey. Chloe Parker played all 60 minutes and allowed one goal while making eight saves in the game.
First Half Stats:
- Shots were even with six a piece in the opening half, Converse led in the first quarter 5-2 in shots taken. Belmont Abbey won the second quarter 4-1 in total shots.
- Belmont Abbey made four saves in the opening frame, while Converse made a pair in the opening half.
- Belmont Abbey attempted five corners in the opening half, while Converse was held to just a pair in the first period.
Second Half Stats:
- Converse came out aggressive in the second half and outshot the Crusaders 9-5 in the third and fourth period. The Valkyries took six shots in the final period, their most in a quarter on the night.
- Despite attempting more shot attempts the Valkyries and the Crusaders ended with five corners each in the second half.

The road trip continues for the Valkyries with a weekend excursion to the Quaker State to battle Bloomsburg and Millersville.
