Valkyries Look to Build Momentum Off of Early Season Win

The Series
This will be the eighth all-time meeting between Belmont Abbey College and Converse University on Tuesday evening. The Crusaders hold a slight edge over the Valkyries with a 4-3 lead in the overall series, however, the Valkyries are on a two-game winning streak against Belmont Abbey. Last spring, Converse defeated the Crusaders by a final score of 1-0. Morgan Berndt scored the game winner in the second quarter as the Valkyries dominated on the stats sheet. Converse outshot Belmont Abbey 18-12 and attempted 14 corners in the match. Belmont Abbey is 3-0 all-time against the Valkyries in games played at Alumni Field. On Tuesday night, Converse will be looking for their first goal ever at Alumni Field.
 
Converse Notes:
  • On Saturday afternoon, Converse defeated Mount Olive for their first ever season opening win.
  • Converse will be looking to extend a two-game winning streak over Belmont Abbey and will also be trying to break a three-game road losing streak to the Crusaders.
  • Eryn Follett picked up her first career goal on Saturday afternoon and she led the team with four total shots and three shots on goal.
  • Layla Frost picked up her first career assist, while Lotte Kanters and Samantha White each finished second on the team with a trio of shots attempted.
  • Ciriaca Petitto recorded a pair of saves in her shutout victory over Mount Olive.

Belmont Abbey Notes:
  • Tuesday nights game against Converse University will be the fall 2021 season opener for the Crusaders.
  • Belmont Abbey is 4-1 all-time in season openers and they will be looking for their fifth straight win on opening night.
  • Last season the Crusaders went 2-4 overall and 2-3 in conference competition.
  • Camrynn Aiello, Lauren Delisi, Caroline Griffin and Sarah Tobin all tied for the team lead in goals with two last season.
  • Julianna Smith made four starts in goal last season for the Crusaders and went 2-2 in starts. Smith allowed 2.25 goals a game and recorded a .640 save percentage.
