Murfreesboro, NC – The Converse Women's Soccer team traveled to Murfreesboro, NC for a Conference Carolinas match-up with Chowan University. The Valkyries were coming of a double overtime tie this past week, where their defense gave a solid performance, while the Hawks lost a heartbreaker in overtime, last Sunday. Both teams were anxious to get back into the win column.
The first half saw Chowan get on board first, at the 9:45 minute mark, which was followed by another goal a little over 15 minutes later. The Valkyries were unable to generate any offense and before the half ended, the Hawks were able to add a third goal, when a cross deflected off a Converse defender.
Darian Bankston would make a save right towards intermission, but they would find themselves trailing by a score of 3-0. Bankston and the defense were able to hold off Chowan at the beginning of the second half, but eventually the Hawks connected on back to back goals, within 39 seconds of each other, to increase their advantage to 5-0. With 15 minutes left in the game, freshman Live Melton would come in at goalie and record 4 saves. However, as the horn sounded, the Valkyries fell to Chowan, 5-0.
Converse will have a week to regroup, as they won't play again until next Sunday, March 7
th. It will be another Conference Carolinas match-up, when they welcome in North Greenville University. The season is still young and the Valkyries will look to improve on generating scoring opportunities. Sunday's game will be livestreamed for fans who want to watch the action and can be found at
