PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Converse University women's basketball team fell 76-40 on Wednesday night to UNC Pembroke.
This season Converse (3-7, 2-5 Conference Carolinas) has struggled shooting the ball away from the Weisiger Center. In a pair of road contests and a neutral site game the Valkyries are averaging 49.3 points per game. While at home this season the Valkyries are averaging an even 62.0 points per game.
In a unique situation involving the UNC Pembroke shot clock lights malfunctioning the Valkyries started the game with a technical foul free throw.
Sydney Wilson (Henderson, Tenn.) scored the opening basket to give Converse a unique 1-0 score. Tiara Williams scored the first basket of the game for UNC Pembroke (7-3, 5-1 Conference Carolinas).
Keyshuna Fair (Anderson, S.C.) on the Valkyries second offensive possession of the game hit a three-pointer off a pass from
Jordan Brown (McCormick, S.C.). The three-point bucket game gave the Valkyries a 4-2 advantage. For the remainder of the period the two teams matched each other possession for possession. With seven seconds to go in the opening quarter Kelci Adams hit a three-pointer to give UNC Pembroke a four-point advantage heading into the second quarter.
UNC Pembroke opened the second period on an 8-0 run and held a 23-11 lead over Converse. Alliee Patillo (Douglasville, Ga.) ended the Braves scoring run with a jumper in the paint. Moments later UNC Pembroke broke the game open on an 11-3 run and led 34-16 over the Valkyries. Converse went into the halftime break down 38-19 to the Braves.
Converse opened the third quarter on a 5-2 run and started to build momentum on the offensive end. With 3:49 to play in the period, Fair hit back-to-back three-pointers to keep the Valkyries in striking distance of UNC Pembroke. Going into the final quarter of play the Valkyries trailed 54-33.
In the final quarter of action, the Valkyries offense was unable to get into a rhythm as they were outscored 22-7.
Eva Carballo (Madrid, Spain) scored the only basket for the Valkyries in the quarter with 13 seconds to go in the game.
Fair led the Valkyries with 9-points, while Brown, Wilson and
Ayanna Parker all contributed 5-points in the loss. Wilson led the Valkyries with 7-rebounds on the night.

The Valkyries will have 15 days between games when they travel to USC Aiken on December 30
th, tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
