TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The 2021 Converse University men's soccer season was one for the record books as the Valkyries completed their inaugural season on Wednesday evening at North Greenville University. Although the Valkyries found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision this season set the foundation for future Valkyrie men's soccer teams.
Converse (8-9-2, 4-7-1 CC) got off to an aggressive start in the first 10-minutes of the match against the Crusaders. The Valkyries outshot North Greenville 4-1 in the opening period but in the 16
th minute the Valkyries got a bit to aggressive.
Nicholas Gartung picked up a yellow card following a hard foul that setup a free kick for the Crusaders. Then in the 18
th minute Carlos Navarro found Kalvin Semedo for the games opening goal.
A few minutes later Luiz Neto picked up a yellow card as he committed a hard foul against the Valkyries. On an ensuing corner kick
Jaxon Keene came within inches of tying the game on a header that sailed just over the crossbar. The Valkyries continued the pressure on the Crusaders backline but they were unable to get on the board. In the 42
nd minute Seth Hall connected with Luiz Neto for the second goal of the contest.
Going into the halftime break the Valkyries trailed 2-0 despite outshooting the Crusaders 8-7 in the opening half. Converse also attempted a quartet of corner kicks in the first half of action.
In the second half it was North Greenville who came out more aggressive on the offensive end of the pitch. The Crusaders out shot the Valkyries 7-3 in the opening fifteen minutes of action. Finally, in the 75

Tobias Bruecher for the Valkyries first goal of the contest.
The Valkyries continued to be aggressive and forced the Crusaders to play physical. North Greenville midfielder Michael Lamb picked up his second yellow card of the match in the 80
th minute and was ejected from the game in the process. With the man up advantage in their favor the Valkyries continued to be aggressive in the final 10-minutes of the game. Converse ran out of time before they were able to score the equalizer.
Gero Wolters and Keene tied for the team lead with a trio of shots on the night. Wolters,
Tobias Bruecher, Keene,
Sinan Kilincarslan and
Hayden Gensler all recorded shot attempts on goal.
David Windmiller finished the match with eight saves on the night.
